A Thoughtful 4th of July
IT IS THE SOLDIER
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier
Who salutes the flag
Who serves under the flag
And whose coffin is draped by the flag
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Ref: the poem - Very true, unfortunately many people do not understand this, or maybe they just do not want to admit it.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to visit your museum (both the 66 and Military) with a group of tourists from the UK ( I am actually from Scotland) September 2008. As ex RAF serviceman I appreciated the commitment your countrymen have made in maintaining the democratic way. It is thanks to Museums like your that the history of the Mother Road and the Military involvements that reminds people what History is about.
Great Museum, my compliments to all involved, keep it up.
Regards
Walter
